The color of the sofa
About the impact of sofa color in any living room and our preferred options.
ALL ALTERNATIVES TO DARK GRAY
The largest and most voluminous piece in any living room is usually the sofa. This is why it also generates the most doubts and insecurities when choosing, as many factors come into play: shape, backrest, type of leg, size...
And, in addition to all of the above, the color. Although it may seem like an easy decision, it can have many implications.
In our projects, we always avoid overly dark colors because they cause the contours and folds of the fabric to blur together, making the sofa appear much more massive (in a black sofa, the seams between cushions are less discernible than in a white one, for example). Our favorites are soft tones, such as light grays, sands, or off-whites, although we also steer clear of very pure whites. We dream about this one every day.
In summary, and as a rule that always works, having the sofa in a tone as similar as possible to the walls of the living room is a very good starting point. This way, we ensure that it integrates perfectly into the space and appears less bulky than it actually is.
If, despite everything, you're not daring enough for a light-colored sofa, and your first choice is dark gray or black (because, for some reason, gray almost always seems like a "safe" choice), we propose two alternatives that are much more interesting and add more character to any living room:
-Brown Range: It may sound a bit unattractive, but both chocolate and caramel tones work especially well if you want to add warmth. If you also choose a velvet fabric, it will have even more nuances. What do you think of this marvel? Alternative: muted burgundies are also a good idea if you're hesitant about brown, although trust us, it works well.
-Green Range: The desaturated and olive tones look particularly beautiful with natural woods and beige walls (this is a good example), but you have to find the perfect green, not too strong, not too soft, not too blue, not too yellow. It seems impossible, but it's not :)
Tell us, what's your favorite sofa color?
A MOMENT TO THANK
As this will be the last newsletter we send in 2023, it seems like a good opportunity to thank you for being here, reading us. But also for all the support we receive every day on social media.
Himera was born little by little, and sometimes, we still find it hard to believe that it has become our job, that it's real. Because this has undoubtedly been an intense year for us, with many challenges and projects that have kept our minds absolutely occupied but also excited.
Moreover, and this is quite crazy, we doubled the number of followers on Instagram (something that was never among our priorities, but it happened). From less than 100K to over 200K. It seems impossible, doesn't it?
There, we posted more than 40 videos (because we lost count of the photos a long time ago) about all the things that are never seen but are necessary for projects to succeed: drawings, drawings, and more drawings (like this one, or this other one). And, for some reason, you liked it. Thank you.
And that encouraged us, because you asked for it, to create (in the same app) a subscription channel about drawing, an unexpected project to which we are dedicating all the love that is in our hands.
But 2023 also brought this newsletter with it: because we wanted a more intimate space, different from the blog, to communicate with you and talk about broader topics. And, six letters later, we are more than 1000! Again, thank you.
As we don't want this to sound like a farewell, we'll stop right here. We wish you a wonderful end of the year and a 2024 full of projects and new aspirations. See you in January!
Happy month,
Ana & Edgar
